Our Waste Management Story
Every person wakes up daily, consumes tea, and takes meals and drinks, and disposes of around 0.2-1kg of waste into trash bins. Unfortunately, most of us don’t segregate these wastes, which end up in landfills.
If you are living in Dar es Salaam, you contribute to 4000 tons of daily waste generation, of which only 50% is collected. The remaining waste probably ends up on the streets and in water channels, around schools or in our own residents. Only 4% of the collected waste is recycled; the rest ends up in the Pugu landfill.
Again, if you live on beautiful streets, you may not notice waste problems, but if you visit hundreds of families, you will find unheard voices. They live in very air-polluted places, and their lives depend on waste picking. This is clearly due to improper waste management, which makes us responsible for the poor quality of life for hundreds of families and the outbreak of communicable diseases.
At Uhai Kijani, we want to ensure that these people live in a safe, healthy, and clean environment. We provide waste management services, including converting waste into resources such as compost and biofeed.
